The Youth Department is the official  voice of all Young Seychellois between the ages of 15 to 35.  In existence now for more than 23 years, it aims to create opportunities for the youth of Seychelles regardless iof colour, social station and religious or political conviction, as much as possible ensuring that they stay clear of the negative influences in society.  

Due to the changing circumstances, it becomes necessary at times for the running of youth affairs to shift from one ministry to another.  This has not in any way resulted in a shift in the overall objective which is working for the advancement of all young Seychellois.

September 2001 saw  the creation of the Youth Department under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Youth, a welcome development which bodes well for a future of greater participation of students in youth programmes, may they be of a sporting, cultural, artistic, recreational or academic nature.  

The Department came up with a new structure and conducted visionning sessions to enable it to deliver more efficiently.
